We’ve often heard that the opera is not for everyone. To which we reply – rubbish. Opera is for everyone. But we do admit that it can get a little stuffy in that concert hall and obviously someone else feels the same because their taking it to the beach instead!
Starting on Friday, May 9, and wrapping up on Mother’s Day (couldn’t have timed it better ourselves) Mozart’s all-time classic, The Magic Flute, will be hosted outdoors along the shores at Coolangatta – so bring your good thongs. But all jests aside, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience one of the most underrated arts in a setting unparalleled in Australia.
This new production is directed by Michael Gow and stars some of Opera Australia’s finest singers, alongside a chorus drawn from community choirs and the Gold Coast’s own surf life saving clubs.
Your ticket will include a deck-chair but no allocated seating – literally, a first in best dressed policy. And speaking of best dressed, there is no specific dress code for the event but why not make a night of it and dust off your favourite LBD and tuxedo and do something extra special for Mother’s Day.
The event will run the entire weekend, with the last show on Sunday, May 11.
