If you’re after good music and a performer who is not too bad on the eyes either, make sure you keep Friday July 4 free because the one and only Dan Sultan is bringing his unique mix of soul, country and rock and roll to the stage at the Soundlounge.

To celebrate the launch of his second studio album, Blackbird, Sultan has confirmed a national tour at some of the best venues our sunburnt country has to offer. Joining him on his tour will be a full backing band, with gig-goers in capital cities (such as yours truly) treated to a little extra glitz from a big-band set-up.

Sultan’s new album, Blackbird, is the culmination of many months of writing and recording, and sees powerhouse riffs met by crackling gospel interludes, old-school rock and roll jams, pure country tones, bare and aching ballads, harmonies, horns, banjos – even an Arabic scale or two. Blackbird is the simple journey of a man singing about love, desire and identity – an Australian musician coming into his own.

Having toured alongside the likes of Bruce Springsteen and a slew of more intimate shows under his belt, this latest series of shows promises a more mature and stage-familiar Sultan. Not that he had any flaws to begin with, but clearly this is a man who has a big future ahead of him!

Dan Sultan will be performing at The Soundlounge on Friday, July 4.
