Anybody will tell you that Surfers Paradise can be a pretty scary place after 3am on a Saturday night… but gutter-kebabs and questionable life choices aren’t the kind of scary I’m talking about. No, we’re talking genuine spookiness; urban legends and ghost-stories-in-the-dark kind of spooky. I know how that sounds, but don’t be so quick to dismiss it! It’s not all Meter Maids and fake tans on the glitter strip, and if you’ve got the guts for it these terrifying tours and attractions might just change your perspective (for better or worse).
Old Surfers Paradise Ghost Tour
Departing from the Fiddlers Green pub at 8pm every Saturday night is Surfers’ own guided lantern ghost tour. Delve into the gritty history of our iconic city as your paranormal-informed guide leads you on a winding tour through old Surfers Paradise; highlighting the seedy undercurrent of past greed, gluttony and betrayal which legend has it, has resulted in some restless (and possibly vengeful) spirits roaming the nooks and crannies of our city of indulgence.
Simply stories, or something more sinister? Find out for yourself…
If a lantern guided ghost tour didn’t sate your appetite for horror, perhaps Surfers Paradise’ own good ol’ fashioned Haunted House will give you the scare you seek.
Several stages of terror await you, as you make your way through multiple levels with names such as “Underworld”, “Carnival of Freaks”, and “The Dead Zone”… to name a few. A “Draculas” enterprise, the Haunted House is a freakish feast of special effects, optical illusions and horror-themed visual displays.
If you’re still game, you can purchase tickets on the website or at the door.
Speaking of… whilst technically not a Surfers Paradise attractions, the original and iconic Draculas cabaret restaurant is just one suburb across at the southernmost end of the G:Link line in Broadbeach. Wining, dining and horrifying Gold Coasters for over 30 years this oft-risqué landmark is a local favourite, and a must-do if you’re new to the area. Your night starts with a ghost-train ride through the underbelly of the building, bringing you out into the “Theatre of the Vampyre”- a gothic style multi-level castle where you’ll await the commencement of your show with horror-themed cocktails at the Van Helsing bar; surrounded by gruesome animatronics, costumed waitresses, and rare horror collectables. The main event is an ever-changing two hour live cabaret performance, with a nightmarishly good three-course meal.
