Raving for Raw

Jul 12, 2013  ·  2 min read

Okay, maybe it seems a little crazy, but the raw food movement seems to be gaining steam (not literally, of course).

Whether or not you agree or think it’s all a little bit hippy, it’s proponents do have some science on their side. Health afficionados believe it’s better to eat ‘live’ food (vegetables) because heating food can destroy the enzymes and nutrients. There’s also no denying that eating raw food means you won’t be chowing down on processed junk – if it’s straight out of the ground (preferably organic), there’s no danger of filling up on sugar. You’re also far more likely to eat your quota of fruit and veg, and a far wider variety, by including one raw meal a day. Instead of the typical meat and three veg, the standard salad often has up to 6-8 ingredients – and variety is the spice of life!

But not sure where to start? We’ve rounded up some recipes from our favourite raw food bloggers – when you taste these meals, you’ll barely even know you’re eating raw!

<>The Raw Brownie> | My New Roots
Made with medjool dates and raw cacao, not only is this recipe raw, it’s packed full of superfoods. Guilt free brownies for the win!

<Broccoli Pesto> | Green Kitchen Stories
So much goodness in one recipe – harness the cancer fighting properties of broccoli and transform a fairly average salad into something worth eating for lunch.

<Raw Tuscan Kale Salad> | 101 Cookbooks
Any health food blogger worth their salt is on the kale bandwagon, but add pecorino and a lemony dressing and we’re sold.
