With fake tans aplenty and a swingin’ party vibe, Surfers Paradise (whilst a picturesque holiday destination) isn’t often thought of as a romantic location. So if you and your partner are looking to get out of the city and spend some quality time alone amongst nature, here are a few romantic recommendations.
Natural Bridge
The Natural Bridge in the Springbrook National Park is a stunning natural rock formation; a cascading waterfall flowing through an eroded, circular hole in the roof of a basalt cave. If you’ve never been to Natural Bridge, you’ve most likely seen it featured on the front of a postcard. Easily one of the most recognisable landmarks of the Gold Coast Hinterland, this tranquil rainforest treasure has been enjoyed by locals and tourists alike for years. Pack a picnic to have at one of several picnic spots within the park, and keep an eye out for an abundance of wildlife including green catbirds, cascade tree frogs, and koalas.
Note: It’s best to leave those swimmers at home, as the plunge pool of the falls and the creek itself is a restricted area due to the risk to both yourself, and the delicate ecosystem.

Mountain Wine
Nothing says romance like boutique wine with a view. In another section of the Gold Coast Hinterlands, you’ll find the famous Tamborine Mountain. Beyond glorious views and ancient rainforests, you’ll find an abundance of boutique wineries, many of which are family owned. With so many to choose from, we’d like to recommend The Heritage. Perched on the rolling green hillside of Mt Tamborine, this particular winery is a chic throwback to yesteryear. The main building is an elegant, restored former church situated in a highland sweet-spot to allow sweeping views of the hinterlands, extending all the way out to the alluring Pacific Ocean. Sip delicate whites in the summer sun while a gentle mountain breeze whisks the unbearable heat away; or take a trip in winter to enjoy a glass of hearty red by the warmth of an open stone fireplace.

Romantic Getaway
If you’re a Surfers Paradise local and you want to get out of the city for a romantic night or two away, look no further than Nightfall Wilderness Camp. Nightfall is located in a seemingly remote part of the Lamington National Park, known as Lost World; appropriately named for its natural scenery comprised of clear mountain streams and ancient sub-tropical rainforests. It’s a natural wonderland full of piccabeen palm groves, pockets of rare Antarctic beech trees and an almost-innumerable variety of native fauna. With permanent, hand-built safari tents and a maximum capacity of six travellers allowed on the premises at any given time to ensure privacy, Nightfall is fairy-tale luxury camping with a focus on romance.
