The Tradición drink recipe.

Award winning Brisbane bar Operator Marco Nunes, named as a Finalist in the Australian BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition, launches campaign for his drink, Tradición

Award winning Brisbanebartender/owner/operator Marco Nunes, former owner of the award winning Canvas bar and operator of newly opened Papa Jack’s in Fortitude Valley, has made the final cut in the Australian leg of the BACARDÍ Legacy Cocktail Competition by being named one of the ‘Five Most Promising’ in the nation-wide competition.

His drink, the Tradición, has been lauded for its creativity, originality and its potential to emulate BACARDÍ’s legacy of great drinks like the Original BACARDÍ Daiquiri, the Original BACARDÍ Mojito and the Original BACARDÍ Cuba Libre.

Over the next three months Marco will be tasked to make his drink a contemporary classic based on his own marketing plan, with the support and assistance of BACARDÍ and a budget of $5,000.

The inspiration behind Marco’s cocktail is a very personal one that resonates with the history of the BACARDÍ brand: “Family connection is at the very heart of my cocktail. The BACARDÍ family has an incredible heritage with a legacy that is still being passed down through the generations. My own parents made wine in Portugal and I wanted to reflect their legacy by creating a drink that tasted like a rich vintage white port,” he said.

He added: “The chance to create a great classic appealed to me and I aspired to create something entirely special and share that with Brisbane. I’ll be working with bars in and around Brisbane, including my own bar Papa Jack’s, to promote the Tradición over the next few months.

“As a bartender, winning this competition would be a highlight of my career – being recognised globally and creating my own legacy is the epitome of success.”

Marco will appear at the Australian Final in Sydney on March 4th 2014 to present his drink and the results of his marketing campaign to a panel of judges and invited guests, along with the other Five Most Promising finalists

Based on the success of their drink and overall campaign, one of the Five Most Promising Finalists will be selected as the winner at the Australian National Final. The successful bartender will go on to represent Australia at the BACARDÍ Global Legacy Final in Russia in 2014 at, what has become, one of the largest and most prestigious international cocktail competitions in the world.

Brisbane locals, cocktail and rum lovers alike should take advantage of the chance to sample Marco’s creation at Papa Jack’s where each customer who buys it will receive a guitar pick with a QR code linked to his Facebook page. Customers are invited to post comments and photos about the Tradición and the first 82 to share their experience will be invited to a special party at Papa Jack’s in March.

Marco is also looking to work with some of Queensland’s best bars, restaurants and clubs around the state to support his goal of establishing Tradicion as a true contemporary classic.  Marco will be spending time in Port Douglas, Cairns, Airlie beach, Noosa, Brisbane and the Gold Coast sharing his craft and passion.
